Iowa Dems to Announce Caucus Process Changes
Big changes are apparently coming to the way Iowa Democrats run their portion of the state’s presidential caucuses. State party officials plan to announce the changes this afternoon. The new rules come after the caucuses were heavily criticized in 2016. Among the complaints were that the current process makes it difficult for people to participate and there was confusion over how the party tabulated the results. A release from the Iowa Democratic Party says party leaders have been studying was to “increase accessibility, transparency, and participation” for the past three years. They say the new rules will be the most significant change to the caucus process since the caucuses began in 1972. The 2020 Iowa caucuses are currently scheduled for February 3.
