Investigation Into Shooting Death Of Galena Man Continues

The investigation into the shooting death of a Galena man this week continues. On Tuesday night, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says 47 year old Dana Clark was shot to death in rural Hanover after being confronted by 37 year old David Van Winkle of Hanover for allegedly trespassing. The two men were involved in a physical altercation, before Van Winkle pulled out a firearm and shot Clark once in the chest. He was pronounced dead a short time later. A press release issued by State’s Attorney John Hay Friday says they are continuing to interview all relevant witnesses, taking photographs, collecting statements and writing reports. Hay says his office has been meeting with law enforcement officers to review the facts of the investigation as they come in. He says they need to take as much time as necessary to ensure they have collected as much evidence and information as needed before deciding if any charges will be filed.
