Inmate Stabs Correctional Officer

An inmate at the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility is facing charges after the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a correctional officer had been stabbed Monday morning. As a result of the investigation it was determined that 47-year old Dexter Ewing, currently housed at WSPF, attacked a 42 year old male Correctional Officer with a “shank” (homemade edge weapon). Ewing attempted to stab the Correctional Officer in the neck, in an attempt to kill him. The victim and another correctional officer were able to disarm Ewing prior to him causing serious injury to the victim. The victim was taken to Gunderson Hospital in Boscobel for treatment of his injuries, which included a wound on his neck and face. He was treated and released. This matter will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney’s Office for a charge of attempted Homicide against Ewing.
