Improvements to Julien Dubuque Bridge Would Force Springtime Detour

Traffic on the Julien Dubuque Bridge would be detoured for more than a month this spring under plans proposed by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The DOT is currently seeking public input on proposed improvements to the bridge, which would include upgrades and repairs to the bridge’s lighting. Under a plan announced by the DOT, the work would require eastbound traffic on the bridge to be detoured for at least four weeks in April or May. The detour could be in place for up to six weeks. Work would be done during daytime hours, specifically between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The detour would send eastbound traffic into Wisconsin using US Highways 61/151. Vehicles would exit onto Wisconsin Highway 11, then turn south onto Wisconsin Highway 35. That road would bring cars into Illinois, where the highway becomes Illinois Route 35.
