Holy Family May Have To Close Schools

Holy Family Catholic Schools in Dubuque is considering closing at least one of its’ elementary schools, but it’s asking for public input first. Chief administrator Phil Bormann says this is due to stagnant enrollment. Bormann says they are considering three options…..close the St. Anthony English program, close Holy Ghost, or close both. St. Anthony’s has 79 students in kindergarten through 5th grade, while Holy Ghost has 75 in the same grade levels. Bormann says this is a tough conversation to have, but it’s necessary with such low enrollment. The Holy Family board is hosting a meeting this Thursday at Wahlert High School to gather public input on the issue. That meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Holy Family also sent out a survey. The board plans to make a decision in October.
