Hit and Run Amish Buggy

A Darlington woman is facing multiple charges after the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office say she ran in to an Amish buggy Sunday evening and left the scene. A deputy responded to STH 126, Belmont Township for a hit and run report at 6:16 pm. 56-year old Jeanne Halvorson was traveling southbound on STH 126 when she struck the Amish buggy and failed to stop. Halvorson was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated, Hit and Run, Failure to Notify Police of Accident, Vehicle Owner’s Liability for Striking an Attended Vehicle and Resist or Obstruct an Officer. Halvorson was arrested for Criminal Damage to Property and was transported to the Lafayette County Jail where she remains in custody. The occupants of the buggy refused medical treatment, however, the horse had to be put down due to its injuries. The buggy was destroyed.
