An explosive at bat in the bottom of the 5th inning sent to the Hempstead Mustangs to the state high school baseball tournament next week defeating Cedar Rapids Prairie 5-2 at Petrakis Park last night. Hempstead trailed 2-1 going into the inning but got a one out double from Kellen Stroymeyer who scored on Zach Sabers RBI single to the tie the game then with 2 outs Logan Runde launched a two run homerun to break the tie and give Hempstead a 4-2 lead. Hempstead added one more on an RBI single by Trey Shaber scoring Devin Eudaley. Prairie went quietly in the 6th and 7th innings.
The Mustangs now 15-and-1 will be making the 14th state tournament appearance in school history Wednesday at Principal Park in Des Moines. Their opponent and game time will be announced later today following the seeding meeting.
