Hempstead Aquatic Center To Open

All hands will be on deck, as the Dubuque Community School District unveils its’ new aquatic center at Hempstead High School with a grand opening and open house of the new facility on January 18th. The new 9.57 million dollar facility was inspected by the Iowa Department of Health on Wednesday, and it passed. The new pool will cut down on the number of team practices and allow for more than one meet to take place at a time. In early 2019 the school board voted to decommission the old pool because of safety concerns, which saved the districts thousands of dollars. The Dubuque Swimmin Hurricanes, or DASH contributed 1 million dollars to the project, which expanded the number of lanes available in the facility. The center will serve as the main practice facility and home competition venue for DASH.
