The Tri-State area has been blanketed by the heaviest snowfall of the winter so far. As of about 8:40 this morning, the Dubuque Regional Airport had received 7.5 inches of snow. That beats out the 5.6 inches of snow that fell on January 19 as the heaviest snow total of the season. Many areas around the area have also received upwards of six inches of accumulation. Meteorologists say the Tri-States can expect an increase in wind speeds this afternoon. Winds will be sustained at 20-30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. Expect blowing snow this afternoon and tonight, especially in more open rural areas. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight tonight.
