Hanover Man Charged With Murder

A Hanover man, who police say shot and killed another man last week for allegedly trespassing, has now been arrested and charged with murder. State’s Attorney John Hay has filed three counts of 1st degree murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm against 37 year old David Van Winkle. The murder charges are special class felonies, while the battery charge is a class X felony. Van Winkle is now being held in the Jo Daviess County jail on a 100-thousand dollar bond. Hay says on the evening of July 14th, Van Winkle confronted 47 year old Dana Clark of Galena for trespassing. The two men fought and Van Winkle pulled out a handgun and shot Clark once in the chest. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
