Gun Violence Public Forum

One of the most note-worthy public forums in the history of the Key City is taking place this evening. Weapons violence and gun safety will be the focus of a public presentation at the Carnegie-Stout Public Library. The event was organized by State Representative Chuck Isenhart of Dubuque. Sunday was “Gun Violence Awareness Day” and as part of that Isenhart thought it would be a good idea to have a more educational opportunity for people to voice their opinions and concern about gun violence and gun safety. Isenhart is hoping to get a cross-section of the community to attend the forum. He is especially hopeful that the event will attract young people. President Trump says he would support legislation that would allow teachers to carry concealed weapons on school grounds, but says that should be left up to individual states. Two representatives from the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center will be at the forum focusing on research to inform state and local policy decision-making. The forum starts at 6:30 this evening at the library.
