Government Shutdown Affect Tax Returns?

Tax return season is nearly here and how will the partial government shutdown affect people expecting a refund this year? The Trump administration recently issued a statement saying the shutdown won’t have any effect on tax returns. Mel Graves is the office manager of the H&R Block location on Dodge Street in Dubuque. He says based on the information they have gotten from the Internal Revenue Service, the government shutdown should not delay your tax return. Depending on how you define “delay”, Graves says the manner in which you receive your tax refund shouldn’t be any different than it was last year. The current partial government shutdown is the longest in U.S. History, breaking the 21 day old record that was set from December 1995 to January 1996.
