Eight members of the Golden Knights Parachute Team will be making several jumps throughout the Tri-State area this weekend. The Golden Knights have been part of the July 3rd Dubuque Jaycees Fireworks and Airshow for years. But because of the current pandemic that event was cancelled. The Knights first jump will happen on Friday morning at 11 o’clock near the Church of the Nativity parking lot on Alta Vista, right next to the Radio Dubuque stations. Sgt. First Class Mike Koch will be taking the leap with his colleagues this weekend. The Knights will be jumping from an Iowa National Guard Chinook helicopter that will land next to the church however, there will be no tours. After the Nativity jump, the group will jump into the parking lot at Kennedy Mall at 7 pm tonight. On Saturday morning at 10:30 am they’ll be jumping in Hazel Green. They’ll wrap up their jumps with one in Guttenberg Sunday afternoon at 2. And how difficult is it to hit the target when making a jump? Sgt. Koch says it takes a lot of skill, but mostly practice. All of the events are free and open to the public. People are being asked to wear a face covering and practice social distancing during the events.
