Gold Coin-Kettle Drive

The Salvation Army of Dubuque had a very special coin arrive in one of its kettles Thursday. Captain Matt Phelps of the Salvation Army says a 1979 Gold Krugerrand was donated. Phelps says that the coin is estimated to be valued at about $1,450. The coin was found at the kettle located at the Dubuque HyVee on Locust. The local Salvation Army is about 25-thousand dollars behind where total donations collected were at this time last year. The 2019 overall goal for the Kettle Campaign is $225,000, with a goal of $118,000 coming directly from the kettles.  The kettle campaign runs through December 24th, while the mail appeal continues until mid-January.
