Galena Students Linked to Bomb Threat Kicked Out of School
Two Galena High school students accused of making bomb threats over social media have been expelled. The local school board decided to kick the students out of school at a special meeting late last month. Galena Superintendent Greg Herbst would not identify the students, or say how long they are barred from attending Galena schools. On Sunday January 12, social media posts were sent out saying there would be a bomb would be at Galena High School the following day. School officials delayed classes because of the threat. No bomb was found, though there was an increased police presence at the high school that entire week. On the same day, Dubuque Police investigated similar messages which threatened violence at Jefferson Middle School and the Alta Vista campus. Those threats were also determined to be not credible. The investigation into the Dubuque threats is ongoing.
