Former Hawkeye football player’s brother fatally stabbed

Former Hawkeye quarterback C.J. Beathard’s younger brother was killed in Nashville, Tennessee early Saturday morning, according to police there. Authorities say it happened during a fight among several people at 2:30 a.m. outside of Dogwood Bar & Grill on Division Street. Clayton Beathard, 22, and Paul Trapeni III, 21, were stabbed. They were taken to a Nashville hospital where they died. A third man who was also stabbed was treated and released from a hospital. Detectives are looking for the person, or people, responsible for the stabbings. C.J. Beathard is a current quarterback for San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers issued the following statement, “The 49ers family was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy involving C. J. Beathard’s younger brother, Clayton. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to C. J. and the entire Beathard family as they cope with the unthinkable loss of a loved one. C. J. has traveled home to join his family knowing he has the support of our entire organization as they grieve the passing of Clayton.
