The Dubuque Fighting Saints used the first of their 10 selections in Phase One of the USHL Draft to get a high scoring Canadian prospect. In the first round with the 14th overall pick Dubuque selected center Rieger Lorenz from Calgary, Alberta. In 35 games for Edge Prep, Lorenz tallied 72 points by scoring 37 goals and 35 assists and is a University of Denver commit.
In the second round, Dubuque chose an elite prospect from the state of Texas, selecting right wing Chase LaPinta with the 29th overall selection. Last season as a member of the Dallas Stars Elite 16 and Under team, LaPinta who hails from Frisco, Texas, scored 21 points in 24 games with 16 goals and 5 assists.
Today Phase 2 of the draft will be held, which includes all ages eligible to play junior hockey and are not currently protected by another USHL team.
