Federal Gun Crime Suspect from Clayton County Pleads Innocence

A Clayton County man accused of a federal gun crime says he’s innocent. 42-year-old John Kottman of Luana has pled not guilty to a single count of Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Prosecutors allege that Kottman had a 12-gauge shotgun in November of last year, despite being barred from possessing guns due to his criminal history, specifically a 2000 conviction for possessing heroin with intent to deliver. Kottman is also facing a similar state-level charge. Court documents connected with that case say he sold that shotgun to another man sometime last fall. Kottman’s trial on the federal charge is scheduled to begin in mid-January.
