Elementary And Secondary School Relief Fund

Help is on the way for school districts in Iowa amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The federally funded “elementary and secondary school relief fund” is designed to help school districts contain unanticipated expenses that have resulted from their COVID-19 response efforts. Ann Lebo, Director of the Iowa Department of Education says the  state has received over 71 million dollars. Lebo says her staff has been working hard to develop and launch an application process so that the money can get to school districts as quickly as possible. 90 percent of the 71.6 million will go directly to districts, which will use a portion of the funds to provide services to non-public schools in their areas. School districts can expect to receive their allocations on May 13th. A list of allocations by districts and the allowable spending categories are available on the Iowa Department of Education’s COVID-19 webpage. This is “teacher appreciation week.”
