ED Councilman to Stage Write-In Campaign for Mayor

A second East Dubuque City Councilman will seek to become the city’s next mayor. Ward 1 representative Kirk VanOstrand tells KDTH he’s running for mayor as a write-in candidate. VanOstrand did not meet the December 17th deadline to file for the election, and his name will not appear on the ballot. The only candidate who will be on the ballot is fellow councilman John Digman. VanOstran says having just one candidate in the race didn’t sit well with him. VanOstrand admits that he faces an uphill battle as a write-in candidate. He believes East Dubuque hasn’t been making the kind of progress it is capable of. The 55-year-old says he is the right person to lead East Dubuque in the immediate future. VanOstrand says he spoke with Digman, who welcomes the competition. Acting mayor Steve Robey announced last year that he will not seek another term. The election is scheduled for April 2nd.
