East Dubuque Flood Control Aid

Two flood mitigation projects in East Dubuque will be getting a big boost from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. City Manager Loras Herrig says over 4-million dollars of state aid has been designated to the city, and considering the layout of East Dubuque, it is much needed. Herrig says the DNR has been very responsive. A prior buyout program in the Shore Acres area was successful and the city will be doing it again. The goal is to remove the homes that keep getting flooded. Rain runoff has been a huge problem and the second part of the funding will be used to develop retention ponds. Herrig says it might take up to four years for the city to actually receive the funding and start the projects.
