Dubuque’s Walk To End Alzheimer’s

The annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s is this weekend in Dubuque, and because of COVID-19, this year’s event will be done a bit differently. Briget Meyer is the walk manager for Dubuque. She says opening ceremonies will start at 10 on Saturday morning at Washington Middle School. Meyer says they are asking participants to take all of the safety measures recommended by local and state health officials and the CDC. This year’s walk will be done with three components in mind. The first one being that all teams are invited to view the walk opening and “promise garden” ceremony in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s app. Meyer says people have been collecting donations throughout the year and everyone that has registered a team has their own personal Facebook page that lets them track all of their donations, which have to be turned in by the end of the year. Meyer says they hope to raise $138,000, but she understands the financial burden that has been placed on people as they deal with the coronavirus pandemic. If you’re not able to participate in Saturday’s event, you still have until December 31st to register and raise money for Alzheimer’s. To register, visit alz.org/walk. You can also help spread the word by joining the Dubuque “Walk to End Alzheimer’s Facebook group.
