Dubuque’s “State of the City” Moves to Quarterly Update Format

The city of Dubuque is changing the way it updates citizens on progress in the city. In the past, the mayor had delivered a yearly “State of the City” address. But beginning this year, Mayor Roy Buol is choosing to present quarterly updates that will cover much of the same material as they annual address had in the past. The first of the new updates was released earlier this week. In it, Buol explained the reason for the change in format. Buol’s first update then focused on the city’s budget procedure. That process will come to a head next month, when the City Council begins hosting public hearings on proposed departmental budgets. In addition to those meetings, there are several other opportunities for citizens to weigh in on the budget during the process. Buol says the city is committed to having the process be driven by citizens. The mayor’s “State of the City” updates will air periodically on City Channel Dubuque, and can also be viewed on the city’s website.
