A Dubuque woman who admitted to helping a man obtain heroin and fentanyl, which led to his death, recently plead guilty to a federal charge of aiding and abetting in the distribution of a controlled substance. 23 year old Jacqueline Birch will be sentenced at a later date. Prosecutors say last May Birch drove her boyfriend and another man to a residence in Dubuque and returned a short time later with heroin they had bought from a dealer. The three then drove to a hotel in Dubuque, where they all used the drug. The other person then began overdosing, and Birch and her boyfriend did not immediately call 911. Over the course of several hours, Birch would occasionally perform CPR on the man, but he never regained consciousness. Eventually Birch and her boyfriend decided to call 911. The boyfriend removed all traces of drug paraphernalia from the room before police arrived. When police did arrive, the man who overdosed was dead. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was an overdose of heroin and fentanyl.
