Dubuque To Receive Brownfield Funding

The city of Dubuque has been selected to receive a federal grant designed to address properties that may be contaminated, clean them up and revitalize those properties. The announcement was made by representatives with the Environmental Protection Agency, Mayor Roy Buol and other city officials yesterday. Dubuque will be getting 800-thousand dollars in EPA Brownfield funds through the Multi-Purpose, Assessment and Cleanup Grant program. The project’s target area is the city’s downtown district, which includes South Port and the Washington and North End neighborhoods. That includes manufacturing and industrial mixed-use land. There are over 100 sites in Dubuque that are potentially contaminated with pollutants or other hazardous substances. Dubuque is one of 149 communities across the country choosen to receive over 150 grant awards that total nearly 65 million dollars.
