One of the greatest athletes in Dubuque sports history has died. Mike Reilly died yesterday at the age of 77 following a long hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s. Reilly was a three sports star at Senior in football, basketball, and track before graduating in 1960. After high school Reilly played football at Iowa where he was an All-American linebacker and then professionally with the Bears and Vikings
Reilly was inducted into the Dubuque Senior Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 and Iowa High School Football Hall of Fame in 1993 and University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.
Following his athletic career was the color commentator for Iowa football broadcasts in the, Reilly was also well known as a community leader who helped spearhead fundraising efforts for local organizations, he also was the founder of the Dubuque chapter of the University of Iowa I-Club.
Funeral services for Mike Reilly will be Monday at 10:30 at Saint Columbkille Catholic Church in Dubuque. Friends may call Sunday from 1 until 5 at the church.
