Dubuque Man Sentenced For Possessing Firearm

A Dubuque man, who has three prior felony and three domestic abuse convictions, faces up to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm following a New Year’s Day shooting in Dubuque. 27 year old Katwan Brown pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids to being a felon and domestic abuser in possession of a firearm. Court records say that on New Year’s Day of this year, video evidence showed Brown handing a pistol to another man after the man had been in an argument in the street with someone else. The man then shot multiple times from the doorway of a home, striking one person. Afterwards, Brown left the house and ran to an alleyway, returning moments later. Officers later found a pistol in the alleyway as well as a cell phone and identification belonging to Brown. His fingerprints were found on the magazine inside the pistol. Brown will be sentenced after a pre-sentence report is prepared by the judge.
