Dubuque Man Gets 17+ Years in Prison for Sexually Abusing Child

A Dubuque man has been ordered to spend more than a decade in prison for sexually abusing a child. 48-year-old Scott Skahill was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison in Jo Daviess County Circuit Court on Thursday. The sentence was handed down after Skahill pled guilty to a felony charge of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault. That guilty plea came as part of a plea agreement that saw seven other charges against Skahill dismissed. Those charges were all related to Skahill’s abuse of the same victim between October of 2017 and February of last year. Court documents say Skahill admitted to sexually abusing a child under 13 years old. Skahill will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence, meaning the earliest he’d be eligible for release would be late 2033.
