Dubuque Man Facing Prison Time For Neglect

A Dubuque man who recently pleaded guilty to a neglect charge could face up to ten years in prison when he is sentenced in May. Documents out of Dubuque County say 28 year old Mark Ward and his girlfriend 29 year old Iesha Searcy also of Dubuque were charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person. Both Ward and Searcy were the primary caregivers of Searcy’s daughter who was nine months old when the two were arrested in February of 2018. They had taken the girl to a dietician and at the time she weighed only ten pounds eight ounces. The girl was eventually hospitalized and doctors said she was severely malnourished and could have developed serious physical problems and even death. Ward will be sentenced on May 4th. Searcy has pleaded not guilty and will next appear in court on March 23rd.
