Dubuque Man Charged After Assault

A Dubuque man was arrested this week, after police say he assaulted another man. The incident happened Thursday night in the 2700 block of La Motte Drive. 36 year old Robert Riddell is charged with willful injury and public intoxication. It all started when Riddell went to a residence on La Motte and started pounding on the door. He was confronted by another man, who told him to leave. As Riddell was walking away, the man began following him. Documents say Riddell then turned around and tackled the man and began punching him in the face multiple times. At one point he choked the victim. A nearby resident heard the commotion and called police. When they arrived the victim’s face was badly swollen, but he refused medical treatment. He later went to Mercy Hospital, where it was determined that he suffered multiple broken bones in his face and a “brain bleed” from the assault. The victim was flown to U. of I. Hospitals for treatment. His condition is not known at this time.
