Dubuque Forum On COVID-19 Economic Impact

There’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the nation’s economy, and the Iowa Business Council is addressing the issue with a series of forums throughout the state. Today, the IBC will conduct its’ first Vision to Vitality forum of the year with the Dubuque community and business leaders to discuss steps towards recovery. IBC executive director Joe Murphy says COVID-19 has crippled a lot of small businesses and in some cases forced them to go out of business. Many of those mom-and-pop storefronts rely on their employees to stay afloat, but many of them no longer have a job. Murphy says the main focus of the forum will be how can the IBC help Iowans get back to work as soon as possible. The virtual forum panelists will consist of several community leaders, including Molly Grover with the chamber of commerce, Windy Mihm-Herold with business and community solutions at NICC, Kristin Dietzel with workforce solutions and Terry Kouba with Alliant Energy. The virtual event is free to attend and open to the public, and you can register right up until the start of the forum. The forum will be held between 3 and 4 pm today. Murphy says another issue that the IBC is taking the lead on is access to high speed broadband internet throughout the state.
