Dubuque Drops Agreement With Flexsteel

A redevelopment agreement with the city of Dubuque and Flexsteel Industries is no more. During its’ meeting Monday night the city council voted 6-to-0 to terminate the agreement, which called for the redevelopment of Flexsteel’s property at its’ former location on Jackson Street. The agreement also involved Dubuque County and Dubuque Initiatives. Company officials say the environmental remediation costs and the loss of a tax benefit are the reasons they requested the agreement be terminated. Instead, at-large councilman Ric Jones says the company has decided to redevelop the property on its’ own. Jones says in the end, termination of the agreement was in the best interest of the city and the other parties involved. Jones says the property will be redeveloped, but there is no time-table at this time. Flexsteel is now located in a new 28 million dollar facility off Seipple Road.
