Dubuque District Sues Construction Company Over Flooding Costs

Dubuque’s school district has filed a lawsuit against the contractor that performed the renovation work at Senior High School. The suit claims Conlon Construction failed to provide adequate flood protection for the school, which later sustained hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage from a storm in July of last year. The district hired Conlon in August of 2016 to do the renovation work, which was completed a couple months ago. Court documents say the district paid about 350-thousand dollars in clean-up costs due to water damage in the school. Insurance only covered 25-thousand of that cost. An attorney representing Conlon has rejected the district’s claims, saying the damages were unrelated to Conlon’s work. The two sides will meet on January 2nd to determine a date for the issue to go to trial.
