Dubuque County Jail Study Gets OK

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department has gotten the go-ahead to begin studying improvements at the county jail. The county Board of Supervisors approved the department’s request to begin seeking proposals for an architectural study on the jail. Sheriff Joe Kennedy says that study will detail options for future improvements. But he already knows some of the things that need to be addressed. One of the most pressing concerns is that the cells still have barred doors, which aren’t up to code anymore. Beyond that, Kennedy says they’re a danger to both jail officers and inmates. The sheriff’s office has set aside up to $50,000 to spend on the study.
