Dubuque County Declares Emergency Declaration

Dubuque County is preparing for the chance that the coronavirus reaches this area. Friday, the board of supervisors approved an emergency declaration. County Emergency Management Agency Director Tom Burger says the declaration means that they’ll utilize all available resources, including state funding to combat COVID-19 if there’s an outbreak. Despite the emergency declaration, Burger says there’s no need for the public to push the panic button. The declaration was approved on a 2-to-1 vote, with Supervisor Ann McDonough voted against it. She told fellow Supervisor Jay Wickham that there should have been more discussion before the declaration was voted on. The supervisors will start to meet twice a week with emergency, law enforcement and health professionals to share the latest information on COVID-19 beginning Tuesday.
