Dubuque Council Asked to Consider Updated Five Flags Study

A Dubuque committee is urging the city to take a look at some updated specifications for a proposed expansion of the Five Flags Center. At a meeting on Friday, the city’s Civic Center Advisory Commission advanced the most recent study into improvements at the 40-year-old arena. Those upgrades would push the price tag for expansion to 85-million dollars. Some of that cost could come from private investors or selling naming rights to the venue. But city officials say the bulk of the cost will have to come from city funds. The City Council will take up the commission’s recommendation at its meeting tonight. The council is only being asked to receive and file the recommendation, and not take any additional action. The council meeting is scheduled for 6:00 tonight at the Historic Federal Building.
