Dubuque City Council Closed Session

The Dubuque city council is still weighing the future of its’ top employee. The council held a closed session Monday night to discuss professional evaluations. Our coverage partners at KCRG TV say the session was likely about City Manager Mike Van Milligan’s contract. In July of last year the council approved Van Milligan’s contract, but hasn’t done so this year. On August 5th the council failed to have a closed session when Mayor Roy Buol and council members Ric Jones and David Resnick voted against it. Iowa law states a super-majority is required to have a closed session. Council members Kate Larsen, Bret Shaw, Louis Del Toro and Jake Rios were frustrated. Those same four council members requested another closed meeting Monday night before the first goal setting session was set to begin. The meeting lasted nearly two hours and all council members voted in favor of having the session. Another meeting was scheduled for today.
