Downtown Dubuque Apartment Fire Investigated as Suspicious

A fire at a downtown Dubuque apartment complex is being investigated as ‘suspicious.’ That’s after neighbors said they heard an explosion as the fire was breaking out. Firefighters were called to the building in the 300 block of West 17th Street shortly before 6:00 Wednesday evening. Flames were already coming out of a second story window when they arrived. No one was inside at the time, and the damage was limited to one second floor apartment. But Fire Marshal Mark Burkle tells our coverage partner, KCRG-TV, that neighbor accounts of the incident have investigators taking a closer look at what happened. Burkle says Dubuque Police will be involved in the investigation, which will include reviewing evidence from inside the apartment and interviews with residents and neighbors.
