Domestic Assault Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

A Dubuque man accused of causing multiple fractures to his girlfriend’s skull has pled not guilty to a pair of charges. 27-year-old Cody Bauer faces one count each of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Domestic Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury. Those charges stem from a November 12 incident that led to his girlfriend’s hospitalization. According to police, a neighbor called and said they were concerned about the woman’s well-being. When officers responded to Bauer’s apartment, he initially blocked them from entering. They eventually got into the apartment, and found the woman with what are described as “obvious” injuries to her head and face. The woman was initially taken to Mercy Hospital here in Dubuque before being transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Her injuries included multiple skull fractures, broken ribs, and a lacerated liver.
