Domestic Assault Suspect Ordered to Wear GPS Monitor

A Dubuque man accused of throwing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs will be monitored by GPS as part of his pretrial release. 27-year-old Cody Bauer has pleaded not guilty to Domestic Assault and Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury charges. A criminal complaint states officers with the Dubuque Police Department responded to Bauer’s Elm Street home on the night of November 12 after an incident between he and his girlfriend. Court documents say Bauer initially tried to block officers from entering the home.  Police were able to get in and found the victim in an upstairs bedroom with injuries to her head and face. They also noticed blood on the stairs, in the bedroom and a bathroom. The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque with injuries including multiple skull fractures, a lacerated liver, and broken ribs. She was later transported to Iowa City for further treatment. Bauer posted a 10-thousand dollar bond earlier this month. Documents filed last week say he will need to wear a GPS monitoring system and abide by a daily curfew.
