District Has Not Exceeded 15-Percent Positivity Rate

Dubuque County has now joined several other counties in the state that have surpassed the 14-day COVID-19 positivity rate of 15 percent. As of 9 o’clock Wednesday morning the county’s positivity rate stood at 15.5 percent. The state uses the 15-percent threshold to determine if school districts can move from in-person to remote learning. But Dubuque Superintendent Stan Rheingans says there are two components to those metrics to determine if districts can request a temporarily move to remote learning. He says the absentee rate also plays a factor. Rheingans the district’s absentee rate is no-where near 10-percent. As of 3:40 Tuesday afternoon, the Dubuque district reported a total of 41 active COVID cases. 29 students and 12 staff members. Western Dubuque has a total of 16 active cases, while Holy Family reports 10.
