District Addresses Coronavirus

As the deadly coronavirus continues to spread throughout the country, the Dubuque Community School District is doing its’ part in keeping parents and staff updated on what it’s doing to combat the virus as well as other respiratory illnesses. Superintendent Stan Rheingans says he is meeting with staff daily to keep them informed about how the district will handle any potential outbreak of COVID-19 in the community. Rheingans say they are also monitoring schools in other states where the virus has spread. The district has plans to address COVID-19 and Rheingans says those plans change everyday. Current state law does not allow for school districts to hold classes remotely, but that could change. The district is using a hospital grade disinfectant to clean their buildings and surfaces. Rheingans says they have added more hand sanitizers at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
