A Chicago woman become the second U.S. patient diagnosed with the new Coronavirus from China Friday. Health officials say the woman returned from a trip to China on January 13th. Despite social media rumors, there are no confirmed cases in Dubuque. MercyOne Hospital’s Infection Preventionist, Gail Gates, says there are many types of strains of Coronavirus and the China version is brand new. Gates says unless you have been in direct contact with the people infected in the United States or have been in China recently you can’t get this new strain. If area residents have recently returned from China, be aware of the symptoms and take precautions. At least six UW-Platteville students who just returned from a trip to China are being monitored for the virus. The college reports the students showed no symptoms after they were screened at Chicago O’Hare International Airport as they were returning on Tuesday. The CDC says symptoms of the disease include trouble breathing, coughing and fever.
