Cuba City Plaza Project

Cuba City recently received funding to develop a downtown plaza that it hopes will attract more people to the city. The plaza is being developed around the Caboose in the Presidential Courtyard along Main Street. The city applied for and received a $16,000 grant through the AARP’ Community Challenge Grant Program and another $5,000 was donated by the City of Presidents Committee. Committee President Donna Rodgers says they solicited the help of students from UW-Platteville who came up with some ideas for the plaza, which include a mural and more green space. Rodgers says they hope to attract day trippers from surrounding areas once the plaza is completed. The city conducted a survey of high school students who say they just want a place to hang out, and Rodgers says the plaza will be the perfect place. Rodgers says in addition to developing a plaza, they would also like to build a Presidential Museum somewhere down the road. If you’d like to donate money for the Presidential Museum, visit the Cuba City website, or you can drop your check off at city hall.
