Council Approves TIF Incentives

The Dubuque city council has approved more than 500 thousand dollars in tax increment financing or TIF, to help with affordable housing development. It approved 450 thousand dollars to Chris Richard for the rehabilitation of a building in the 200 block of West 17th Street. The building has 30, one bedroom rental units. According to a city document the rehab will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.3 million dollars. Housing Development Director Alexis Steger says the city invests in these projects because they fill a need. The council is giving another project up to ten years of TIF rebates of property tax increases of up to 179-thousand dollars. It awarded that to a development group for renovating the former Sacred Heart School. It will have 28 units for seniors, 24 of which will be affordable.
