College Basketball: UNI Falls to Hot-Shooting Grand Canyon

Men’s College Basketball

Grand Canyon 73, UNI 62 – The Panthers couldn’t keep pace with the hot-shooting Antelopes, who hit on 45 percent of their field goal attempts. UNI, on the other hand, struggled early, hitting just 30 percent of their shots in the first half on the way to an eight-point deficit at the break. The Panthers recovered some in the second half, but weren’t able to complete the comeback. Former Dubuque Senior prep Luke McDonnell was in the starting lineup for the Panthers, and made his only field goal attempt of the game in a two-point, two-assist, three-rebound performance. Western Dubuque alum Spencer Haldeman added three points in just six minutes of action.

U. of Dubuque 78, Marian 59 (Daytona Beach Shootout) – The Spartans completed a sweep of their Florida trip as they improved to 7-3 on the season. Marcus McDaniel led UD with a 15-point night. The Spartans will return to action next Friday night when they face crosstown rival Clarke.
