City To Spend 1.4 Million On MCFC

Dubuque city leaders want to spend more than one million dollars to connect two buildings into one. The city plans to spend the money on a project for the Multicultural Family Center on Central Avenue. The former Colts building right next door sits empty, so the city plans to connect the two buildings. It would take the MFC’s footprint from 6,600 square feet to nearly 17,000 square feet. The total cost would be around 1.4 million dollars. Center Director Jacqueline Hunter says they need more space.
Hunter says they’ll expand the center’s programming by offering some leisure service activities and performing arts. The additional space will allow the MFC to set up a college access center, something Hunter says they wanted to do for a while. Right now the city has the project open to bids. It plans to award a contract on November 4th and have construction completed by the end of April 2020.
