City Council Dream Center and Fountain of Youth Funding

The Dubuque City Council this week voted to designate more than 270-thousand dollars to the Dream Center. A total of $176,000 was approved for fiscal year 2020 and an additional $100,000 was already budgeted to the Dream Center for 2021. The center provides child care for nearly 200 families in the city. As of now, the center is not eligible for child care state funds because the facility needs updates. The Dream Center said the city funds should be enough to meet state standards. It estimates it will get up to $800,000 a year in state funding with the improvements made to their space. The City Council also approved just over $13,000 in fiscal year 2020 to Fountain of Youth that was already budgeted to the United Way for grant matching purposes to benefit the nonprofit.
