City Council Coronavirus Update

The Health Services Department delivered an update to the Dubuque City Council Monday on what they’re doing to be ready for potential coronavirus cases. Officials were there to inform the council, as well as the public at large to give reassurance that the city will be ready if cases arrive. Public health specialist, Mary Rose Corrigan, says it’s safe to hold local events as planned. Dubuque County has a plan in place to screen people who are coming from countries or states that have had many cases diagnosed. Fire Chief Rick Steines says people now have to answer additional screening questions to track the virus should it show up. Emergency services are also ready to limit the amount of first responders to patients with potential symptoms to control exposure. Health officials are encouraging people to stay home if you have flu-like symptoms, wash your hands, keep clean spaces, and cover your cough.
