City Administrator: Cascade Ice Jam Appears to Be Breaking Up
A massive ice jam that had threatened to send floodwaters into the town of Cascade appears to be breaking apart. The jam formed on the North Fork Maquoketa River Cascade over the weekend. The jam ran about a mile and a half from near US Highway 151’s intersection with Iowa Highway 136 down to Cascade’s southern city limits. By this morning, the entire width of the river in downtown Cascade appeared to be jammed up. But Cascade City Administrator Deanna McCusker says that as local officials were looking for the exact location of the jam, it became to come loose. McCusker says there were places where the river came out of its banks, but any damage appears to be minimal. There do not appear to be any other jams along the North Fork Maquoketa between Cascade and Dyersville.
